Course details
This course introduces students to Australian Standard design methodology for concrete structures. They identify construction and operational factors that influence design of concrete structures, select and specify materials, and design basic columns, walls, beams and slabs. Students then address more complex designs that involve interactions between structural members and check serviceability requirements. They are introduced to design of precast, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete. They develop skills in use of the technical language of structural concrete design and in the documentation and checking of designs. Students work, learn and communicate in a professional manner, alone and in teams, and use information literacy skills to investigate design problems and present solutions.
Distance Education (Flex) students will be required to attend a residential school to promote development of course learning outcomes.
