Course details
This course is geared towards students who have had little or no programming experience. This course is the first in a sequence of two C++ programming courses designed to give students an understanding of the principles, and practice, of developing structured programs and object-oriented programs. This course covers structured programming. The second course covers object-oriented programming. This course is designed to introduce students to the principles of structured programming - principles that apply to all modern general-purpose programming languages. Students start out by learning to read code, and to trace the flow of a program to locate errors. Students will be introduced to a compiler early to encourage experimentation with simple programs. In the first part of the course, students will be given designs to code and test. Later in the course, students will be introduced to the process of developing the design of a structured program. Students will also learn how to develop and debug programs in a modern IDE (integrated development environment). NOTE: It is essential that the student have regular use of a computer with an ANSI-standard C++ compiler (such as that provided with the prescribed textbook as supplied by the CQU Bookshop). The student must also have regular use of a computer that is connected to the Internet.
