Course details

The ability to speak clearly, and communicate effectively and accurately, is a highly prized and rare art and skill. The course focuses on speaking and writing for oral and visual media like television and radio, as well as presentations within organizations. Students will unravel the various elements of speech communication so that they can become conscious of the attributes that comprise effective auditory communication and enhance those skills and abilities through practice and scripting. The scripting component of the course teaches students to apply their understanding of oral communication to written forms, using story, narrative, structure, and character to write effectively for the ear. Writing scripts for television and radio news items will be an element of the course.
