Course details

This course is an advanced acting workshop for students in comedic technique and style. Through contextual study of four discrete theatrical periods: Commedia dell'arte and Shakespeare, Restoration, Comedy of Manners, and comedy in modern writing, students will engage, through scene work, in the attributes of voice, physicality, timing and reaction necessary to successfully engage in roles for plays within these milieu. The role of the 'Dramaturg' will be introduced and its importance as a component of the creative team: with reference to production dramaturgy, collaboration with directors, new play development, working with playwrights and adaptation. This work will continue inside the Actors Studio environment.
