COMM12118 The Creative Entrepreneur

Course details

In a globalizing culture, opportunities occur through the individual’s capacity to engage with and capitalize on the resources that are made available within contexts of digital and electronic communication. No longer shackled to strict hierarchical control, individual workers are becoming more entrepreneurial in their work, seeking new and innovative ways of doing and making things. This course will provide students with knowledge about working in the new media environments as creative entrepreneurs. It will examine the social and institutional contexts of the new media age, its imperatives as a postindustrial enterprise, and the ethical principles involved in working in such environments. It will examine key policy issues, such as copyright and intellectual property, and consider the issue of creativity and innovation as an important factor in new media productivity.
