Course details

The exploitation of water resources for the benefit of humankind has major social, economic and environmental impacts. A rational framework for the planning and management of water resources is essential. This course provides an overview of the principles and tools that underpin rational decision making associated with water resources. Topics include: evaluation of quantity of the resource; multi-criterion decision making; fundamentals of economic benefit and cost assessment; evaluation of non-economic impacts; sustainability issues; simulation models for decision support; concepts of optimization; dealing with uncertain outcomes arising from climate variability; role of data.
