JAPN11012 Introductory Japanese A

Course details

This course teaches basic listening/speaking skills needed for simple Japanese conversation. Therefore (for as much time as possible) after repetitive drilling in lesson language patterns, classes engage in simple dialogue in Japanese on topics that arise from the lessons. These topics stress elementary dialogue with customers/visitors/strangers, with particular linkages to Japanese tradition, social behaviour and business etiquette. The courses are therefore very useful for students of Tourism and Leisure Studies and also for many students in the School of Business. Although primary emphasis is on speaking, classes also include related reading exercises which assist in the retention of topics presented. Thus, the elementary courses will be of value to students with a wide diversity of study/career interests.
