ENEC12001 Hydraulics

Course details

For the planning, design, and operation of water resources projects, knowledge related to hydraulics is the most crucial. Hydraulics includes the knowledge of science for fluids at rest as well as fluids in motion. Our aim remains to provide a comprehensive coverage of civil engineering hydraulics starting from the basic principles to most applied fields of hydraulic structures and machinery. There are many other related specialities, which in one way or another depend on hydraulics for their diagnostic analyses, as follows: hydrology, irrigation and drainage systems; flood control, sediment transport; coastal and estuaries; water supply and sewerage systems; hydropower etc. The same underlying principles of flow behaviour are applicable to all of the above fields. Thus the study of engineering hydraulics is not merely a collection of specialized design methods, but rather is a study of general principles which, when supported by pertinent experimental data, can be applied to specific applications as needed.
