Program aim

Students studying courses in the certificate will obtain the basic knowledge required to undertake occupational health and safety duties in the workplace without having the commitment of a full undergraduate degree. Courses include topics such as hazard identification and risk control, safety auditing, accident investigation and analysis, rehabilitation management and either occupational hygiene or ergonomics. Students who successfully complete these courses and wish to study more, will have the courses accredited to the degree course.

Graduates may also qualify for the Workplace Health and Safety Officer Certificate awarded by the Department of Industrial Relations and the Workplace Rehabilitation Coordinator Certificate accredited by Workcover. Industry experts have been consulted throughout the developmental stages, to ensure graduates possess the qualities and skills that are deemed to be most important by future employers.

Program structure

To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete three compulsory courses as scheduled and choose the fourth course from the courses indicated to a total of 24 units of credit.

Application for credit transfer

Credit transfer will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary studies undertaken equivalent in content and depth to the CQU program has been successfully completed. Students should examine the course synopses in this handbook to determine the courses for which they may be eligible to claim exemption. Computing requirements

It is a requirement of enrolment in this program that students have access to the CQU www site via the Internet. Students will be expected to undertake various components of study in the degree using email, Blackboard and the Internet.
