Program aim
The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business (Specialisation) double degree program is designed for students whose career aspirations may be best served by combining a multidisciplinary degree program providing opportunities to pursue studies in the broad discipline areas of humanities and the social sciences, with a broadly-based rather than a discipline specific professional business program. Students will be able to combine social science and humanities disciplines in their core studies and the flexible structure of the Bachelor of Arts component will give graduates broader perspectives on the contemporary world and develop their critical, analytical and problem-solving skills. Students will also be able to undertake studies across a range of business and other related disciplines. This approach will suit students who believe that they will be better served in their careers by acquiring an understanding of a wide range of business areas and operations, rather than specialising in a single business area or function.
Program structure
To satisfy the requirements for the award, students must complete a program of 32 courses which comply with the requirements stated below:
Students must complete:
- 2 plans (12 courses) from the core study plans of the Bachelor of Arts (see separate Handbook entry for the Bachelor of Arts)
- 10 compulsory courses of the Bachelor of Business (Specialisation) (listed below
- one plan (6 courses) from the following specialist areas offered by the Faculty of Business & Law (Human Resource Management, Management, Administration, Marketing, Tourism, Economics & Finance, Law & Taxation, E-Commerce, Consumer Marketing)
- 4 elective courses chosen from any degree program in the University.

Multiple Exit Points
Multiple exit points have been incorporated into the Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Business (Specialisation) program to recognise a specific level of achievement. Exit points are only available to students who make application to graduate with the exit qualification, cancel their enrolment in the course and satisfy the requirements of the specific exit qualification. Students availing themselves of such exit qualifications who wish to continue with the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business Administration must apply for readmission to the course. Subsequent re-entry to the course an attainment of a higher qualification will necessitate the surrender of the lower level award.
Diploma of Arts
Students who complete 8 courses (48 units of credit, at least 24 from the core of the BA program) from the Bachelor of Arts and make application to graduate, cancel their enrolment in the course and carry out all other necessary procedures, will be eligible for the Diploma of Arts.
Application for credit transfer
Credit transfer will only be granted where a student is able to demonstrate that tertiary studies equivalent in content and depth to a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Business (Specialisation) program have been completed. Students should examine the course synopses in this Handbook to determine the courses from which they may be eligible to claim exemption. Refer to Credit for Previous Studies in the Admission & Enrolment section of the Handbook, regarding the guidelines and requirements in applying for credit transfer.
A recommended study schedule for this program can be obtained from your program advisor. Students may determine their own schedule based upon credit transfers and personal study requirements. It is important to note that full-time students usually enrol in four courses per term and part-time students usually enrol in two courses per term.
