The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Studies-Inservice) has been designed for practising teachers who wish to complete a fourth year degree qualification with a specialisation in early childhood. The program has been recognised by the appropriate credentialling authorities and graduates could seek employment opportunities in a range of positions in early childhood services such as director and group leader in day care centres as well as pre-schools and schools.
Applicants to this course will normally hold a recognised 3 year teaching qualification and be eligible for registration with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration.
Students who do not meet these requirements may be permitted by the Dean to enrol in the course and may be required to undertake additional courses.
To satisfy the requirements of the award, students must complete 8 courses or 48 units of credit as outlined below.
Recommended Study Schedule
The following schedule is designed for full-time students who usually enrol in four courses per term or 24 units of credit. Part-time students should therefore modify this schedule to suit their own needs The normal study load for part-time students is two courses per term or 12 units of credit per term.

Students who have not undertaken teaching experience in a range of early childhood settings will be required to undertake up to 20 days of assessed field work within the course Individual Project.
Students who have completed a 3 year qualification which included an early childhood plan or specialisation (Dip T [ECE] or BTeach [ECE]) or the equivalent, may undertake the course EDEC14018 Contemporary Perspectives on Literacy in Early Childhood in place of EDEC11021 Play: Theory & Practice.
