This program combines advanced level coursework and a research dissertation, both completed at Honours level. The program is designed to provide Bachelor of Tourism graduates who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance with the opportunity to develop research skills at a level beyond those of the Pass degree, and to gain experience in undertaking research into tourism related issues. These issues may include, but are not limited to, sustainable tourism development, tourism impacts assessment, the motivations and socio-behavioural characteristics of tourists, authenticity, and factors influencing patterns of tourist demand.
Candidates for admission must possess an appropriate past degree from an Australian University or college with a grade point average of 5 or better in advanced level tourism courses relevant to the propsed dissertation topic. The degree must have been completed within the last 2 years, except with the special approval of the Dean. Applicants will need to consult academic staff to ascertain the availability of a supervisor for their proram, and will be required to attend an interview with senior academic staff of the Faculty before their candidature will be accepted.
Program Structure
Candidates must complete the equivalent of 8 courses to graduate from this course, comprising 4 courses of coursework, and a dissertation equivalent to 4 courses. The dissertation component includes the presentation of a seminar on the research topic. The sequence of study for part-time candidates will be determined in consultation with their supervisors and the Program Administrator. This may differ from that of full-time candidates and different study loads and time limits for completion may apply.

Dissertations
Full-time candidates are required to submit their dissertations no later than the second Monday of the examination period of Winter Term. Each part-time candidate will be given a date by which the dissertation must be submitted; this date will normally be the second Monday of an examination period.
Once the date for submission of the dissertation has been fixed, any extension of time for submission will be granted by the Dean only in exceptional circumstances and upon receipt of proof that the delay was due to circumstances outside the candidates control.
Grading of Honours Degrees
The available levels of gradings for candidates undertaking their Honours program are:
First Class Second Class, Division A Second Class, Division B Third Class Fail Scholarships
There are a limited number of scholarships available to Honours students. Details of these scholarships are available from the Accociate Dean (Research).
