Bachelor of Vocational Education (Secondary) CU33

Duration: Undergraduate entry - 3 years full-time; Graduate entry - 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time.
Mode: External only.
Location(On-Campus): Not offered internally.
Courses/Units of Credit: 192 units of credit/32 courses.
Faculty: Education & Creative Arts.
Entry: Direct. Undergraduate entry - Undergraduate students will commence studies with industry qualifications recognised by relevant Industry Training Advisory Bodies (ITAB) as sufficient to teach up to at least Australian Qualifications Framework Level 3 competencies embedded in modules or programs. These experienced practitioners will have extensive experience plus they will have completed formal qualifications in accredited vocational and/or paraprofessional training. Graduate entry - Graduate entry students will have a 3 year degree or its equivalent as a minimum requirement with courses appropriate to VET teaching discipline areas. Candidates will be advised to: have already completed all Workplace Trainer and Workplace Assessor requirements relevant to their particular industry; or undertake to attain these instructional competencies as part of their entry considerations.
Accreditation: Graduates are eligible for provisional registration with the Queensland Board of Teacher Registration. Full registration is gained following the equivalent of 12 months’ successful, full-time teaching. Practicum/Work Placement: 100 days of supervised fieldwork must be undertaken.
Residential School: Nil.
Exit Awards: Advanced Diploma of VET; (equivalent of 16 courses).

Program Overview

The aim of this program is to provide an avenue for workplace trainers and assessors to develop their expertise in the area of senior secondary schooling to meet the requirements of the Board of Teacher Registration and secondary school employment authorities.

Entry

This course incorporates one exit point:

  • Advanced Diploma of VET (AdvDipVET)

Undergraduate Entry

These experienced practitioners will have extensive industry experience plus they will have completed formal qualifications in accredited vocational and/or paraprofessional training.

Students must apply for their 8 unspecified courses for their Trade or Industry specific qualifications which is a pre-requisite for entry to this program. Students will then be required to complete 24 courses from the lists below to be eligible for the award.

^ These courses are advanced level elective courses in your chosen training/teaching area. Students are requested to read the course synopses at the back of this Handbook. These courses will require a Credit Transfer from successfully completed Content (discipline Specific) studies.

* Note that these courses are available in both Autumn and Winter Term but must be completed in the sequence of 48204, 48404, 48314 & 48414.

Program Structure: Graduate Entry

The minimum requirement for graduate entry is a 3 year degree (or its equivalent) with courses appropriate to VET teaching discipline areas.

Therefore the graduate entry program is of 2 years full-time equivalent duration. Compulsory first-year courses are noted as these courses are necessary to comply with BTR requirements.
