Bachelor of Construction Management CQ29

Duration: 6 - 8 years part-time.
Mode: External only.
Location(On-Campus): Not offered internally.
Courses/Units of Credit: 46 courses/192 units of credit.
Faculty: Engineering & Physical Systems.
Entry: QTAC. Those studying the program must be employed in construction works (850355).
Accreditation: Graduates are eligible for provisional full registration by the Australian Institute of Building.
Practicum/Work Placement: It is a requirement of the program that students write up two reports on their work experience while studying.
Residential School: Nil.

Program Overview

This program provides training in all aspects of construction management and aims to produce graduates capable of managing and controlling complex construction projects. Students must be employed in the building industry.

Prospective students are encouraged to talk to the Program Coordinator about exemptions from the program based on previous study or professional experience. The Faculty has established sets of exemptions for holders of TAFE qualifications.

A normal part-time load is 12 units of credit per term. Students should note prerequisite requirements and course availability (in this Handbook) when constructing your program in liaison with program advisors. It is suggested that you study courses in order of level. However, you may choose to bring courses forward provided you have studied the necessary prerequisites and the courses are available.

Work Experience and Project Courses

The following work experience and Project courses may be undertaken throughout the program of study. CM Project I & II are considered as cornerstone projects and should therefore be undertaken towards completion of studies for this degree.

Degrees in Construction Management with Honours

Construction Management students will be eligible for honours on the following basis:

  • program work is the same for the pass and honours degree;
  • the project reports associated with BLCN14018   & BLCN14019   for honours students will contain a substantial amount of research; and
  • there will be 3 levels of honours achievement:

      First Class
      Second Class A
      Second Class B

  • a grade point average (GPA) will be computed for each student’s first attempt achievement in program courses for each of the years on a 7 point scale, with 7 as the highest possible GPA
  • the class of honours will be decided by the following overall GPAs:
    GPA Class of Honours
    5.50 and above First
    5.25 - 5.49 Second A
    5.00 - 5.24 Second B
  • potential honours students will be advised of their candidacy at the end of Year 3 on the basis of a GPA in the region of 5 or above.
