Graduate Diploma of Psychology CU87

Duration: 6 terms full-time, 12 terms part-time.
Mode: Internal, External, Multi-modal. It is a requirement of enrolment in the course that all students have access to the CQU World Wide Web site via the internet. Students will be expected to undertake various components of study in the Diploma using e-mail and the Internet.

Accreditation: Accreditation will be sought in 2000 for recognition of the GDPsych as a 3-year undergraduate award in Psychology.

The Graduate Diploma of Psychology is designed for persons who already hold a degree from a recognised university to undertake in full, or complete, an accredited three year undergraduate program in Psychology for the purpose of establishing their eligibility for entry into a fourth-year degree or postgraduate diploma program in Psychology.

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma will have broad knowledge of the discipline of Psychology and its applications, including major theoretical perspectives within the discipline. In addition, they will have knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the scientific discipline of Psychology and of the research methodologies and statistical techniques commonly used by researchers for information gathering and analysis. They will be able to apply that knowledge when undertaking research activities in the core areas of scientific study.

Program Structure

To obtain a Graduate Diploma of Psychology a student shall:

  • prior to enrolment in the award, hold a degree from a recognised university;
  • and obtain credit for a total of 72 units of credit from the table below in accordance with the following:
  1. at least 36 units of credit shall be at Level 3, and include PSYC13015   Advanced Methods in Psychology; and
  2. except with the approval of the Head of School, all course prerequisites in Psychology shall be satisfied.

Failure to satisfy these requirements will result in non-eligibility to graduate.

Credits and Exemptions

Credit for, and exemption from, second and third level courses in Psychology will only be granted where the courses which form the basis of the credit application have been taken as part of a program of study in Psychology offered by an accredited Psychology academic organisational unit. Students shall be eligible to apply for a maximum of 48 units of credit on that basis.
