PSYC13018 Cross-Cultural Psychology
The course explores the influence of cultural
variables on human behaviour. As such, it looks at the development
of cross-cultural psychology as a distinctive area of psychology
and at recent attempts to devise theories that reflect the cultural,
as well as social and developmental, bases of behaviour. The course
also deals with a range of research methodologies that may be used by
cross-cultural psychologists. Because the interests of cross-cultural
psychologists are wide-ranging across the larger discipline, the
course will deal selectively with topics such as culture and cognition,
culture learning, culture and language, cross-cultural studies of
personality, work, social behaviour and psychopathology to illustrate
how cultural factors may influence human behaviour. It is a requirement
of enrolment that students have access to the CQU website via the
Internet.
