Program Aim
This program will achieve a number of outcomes in the development of skills and knowledge in mental health nursing. Graduates of this program will achieve knowledge and skills in preparation for specialist practice in the mental health nursing field.
Specifically they will:
- acquire the skills and knowledge required for specialisation in the mental health nursing field;
- be able to apply the knowledge obtained and illustrate this in a broad range of specific practice settings;
- question mental health nursing practice from a research and practice-based perspective;
- examine contemporary issues in mental health nursing;
- illustrate professional development activities including writing and presentation skills.
Program Structure
The Graduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing will consist of six 8 units of credit courses for a total of 48 units of credit. The program will centre on providing a solid base in mental health nursing with a strong focus on skill development. The Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing program is the second of three steps (first step is the Graduate Certificate) leading to a Master of Mental Health Nursing.
