For students studying the underground specialisation, the University courses plus the Resources and Infrastructure Industry (RII) competencies at AQF levels 5 and 6 in this program are aimed to meet the educational prerequisites to be eligible to sit for the examination of the Board of Examiners for the First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Underground Coal Mines, Queensland).

For students studying the surface specialisation, the RII competencies at AQF levels 5 and 6 in this program will provide Site Senior Executives with persons who have appropriate competencies to manage mines safely and efficiently.

About Mines Operation Management

Queensland has vast minerals resources. There are bands of coal rich strata from Collinsville in the north to Milmerran in the south. Queensland is Australia’s largest producer of coal and Australia is the world's largest exporter of coal. Continued growth in the minerals industry requires people with technical skills to develop and operate mines in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner.

Graduates from this program often find employment such as:

Underground Mine Manager - On successful completion of the Associate Degree which includes completion of the mandatory RII Competencies; graduates are eligible to sit for the First Class Mine Manager's Certificate (Underground Coal Mine, Queensland).

Senior Mining Supervisor, Mining Superintendent, Mining Manager - On successful completion of the Associate Degree which includes completion of appropriate RII Competencies at AQF levels 5 & 6.
