Course details
After meeting our obligations, physical and psychological needs we have free time during which many people choose to participate in or spectate at sport, cultural activities and festivals. These special events are becoming very important strategic promotional tools for governments and destinations. Special events are important economic and social contributors to both the regional and national economies with Mega events such as the Olympic Games and Football World Cup seeing countries spend millions of dollars to bid for these events and hundreds of millions to host the event if their bid is successful. The events industry is by its very nature inter-disciplinary, covering sociology, communication, economics and marketing. As an academic discipline, events research has grown substantially over the past decade and preparing students with the skills and knowledge to conduct research in this developing area is one of the main aims of this course.
