OCCT13002 Enabling Strategies for People with Neurological Dysfunctions

Course details

This course will provide students with the fundamental knowledge about neuroanatomy and neurophysiology necessary for health care practice. Students will learn about the development of the sensory, motor and autonomic nervous systems and the effects of ageing and the different manifestations of pain, and the complexity of the pain experience. During the course students will be introduced to the neurological disorders commonly referred to occupational therapists. They will gain an understanding of the aetiology, pathology, signs and symptoms, medical management and specific occupational therapy assessments and interventions for a variety of neurological diagnoses across the continuum of treatment settings (acute care through to community). Students will apply and contrast the practice models of the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and Engagement (CMOP-E) and the model of human occupation (MOHO) in their response to a complex case-study using the occupational therapy process.
