SPCH13008 Neuroscience and Cognitive Models for Speech Pathology

Course details

This course explores psychological and neurobiological factors that enable humans to acquire, use, comprehend and produce speech and language. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology as it relates to speech pathology practice. They will learn about higher cortical function, sensory, motor and autonomic nervous systems and vascularisation of the central nervous system, including the cranial nerves and their importance to communication and swallowing. Principles of neuroplasticity will be explored with reference to speech pathology practice.
