Course details
This course introduces students to surface and underground geotechnical issues in relation to mining subsidence, pillar design, ground support and pillar extraction methods. It outlines the practice of mining under surface structures, bodies of water and aquifers. Students should develop an understanding and a capability in surface mine design techniques, production scheduling and dump planning. Concepts are introduced in relation to pit stability, which is also considered in relation to surface and dewatering bore holes, sumps and pumping operations.
