NURS12148 Legal & Ethical Issues in Health Care

Course details

At the completion of this course the student should be able to identify and apply legal and professional boundaries and standards to their practice. Inherent to the nursing profession are the various professional, legal and ethical standards that govern nursing practice in Australia, such as Nursing and Mental Health Acts, Codes of Professional Practice, Codes of Conducts, Codes of Ethics and Institutional / Organisational policies. The core values of ethical practice, legislation and the law are examined together with professional governance, professional disciplinary processes. The course content will relate current law to clinical activities in order for the student to understand the processes involved should a nurse breach these standards or legislation.
