Course details
This course is a sequel to Pre Clinical Practice 1 which reinforces skills learnt previously as well as developing new skills and techniques. On completion of this course, students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in examination, medical and dental history taking and risk assessment for children and adults with the aid of impressions, and extra- and intraoral radiology. Students should be able to apply knowledge and demonstrate skills in the preventive and operative management of dental caries including, extractions, pulpotomies, stainless steel crowns and strip crowns of primary teeth. Students should also be able to apply knowledge and demonstrate skills in the prevention and management of periodontal diseases including the maintenance of dental implants, and the oral health therapists¿ role in the diagnosis and management of peri-implant mucositis and implantitis. The development of appropriate treatment plans with consideration of informed consent, emergency treatment, pain control, referral pathways and review is also introduced. Lastly, students will be able to communicate oral health in oral and written formats in terms of relevant interpersonal/team communication skills and professional attitudes/behaviours.
