Course details

This course introduces students to the history and cultural development of jazz music from its nineteenth-century origins in ragtime and blues through early jazz, swing and bebop. It focuses on prominent musicians, composers and repertoire, including the sociological and political events that influenced musical trends in jazz from the late 1800¿s to the mid 1950¿s.
