TOUR11013 Tourism Fundamentals

Course details

At an introductory level, this course will introduce students to concepts and theories related to the tourism industry. The course will also introduce the student to tourism in the context of United Nations principles and institutions. The course also gives preliminary consideration to the longer term consequences of tourism development, and the environmental, social and economic impacts of such development. The economics of the industry, the development and promotion of attractions, and issues confronting the industry in the future are examined with reference to the Australian and international tourism industries. Ethical and social responsibilities of tourism operators and planners will also be examined. It is intended that these major themes will be developed in depth in subsequent courses of study.
