NURS13132 Maternal and Neonatal Nursing

Course details

This course is designed for students with an interest in maternal and neonatal nursing and those considering becoming a midwife. The course introduces students to normal processes of human reproduction, pregnancy and birth. Students will explore the role of the nurse in the provision of early postnatal care of mother and baby and the benefits of breastfeeding and infant nutrition. Students will examine factors that influence maternal and newborn health and identify key health promotion and education strategies designed to improve health outcomes. Students will identify legal and ethical issues related to maternal and neonatal nursing and the role of the midwife in the provision of maternity services.
