MEDS12006 Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology 1

Course details

This course introduces the student to obstetric and non-gravid pelvic ultrasound imaging. The student will learn to recognise the gravid and non-gravid pelvic anatomy, the sonographic appearance of normal and abnormal structures in the non-gravid pelvis, sonographic techniques and procedures, identifying relevant pathologies and creating oral and written technical reports appropriate to the field of gynaecology sonography. The normal gravid pelvis and the key features of embryology as they relate to foetal development will be a major component of this course. Students will learn to identify family-centred, holistic communication and care strategies employed in the appropriate care of the obstetric patient. The student will be introduced to the ethical, medico-legal and professional issues relevant to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
