Course details

This course builds onto the theoretical understanding of literacy established in the previous courses in this suite - Literacy in the Classroom and English Curriculum and Pedagogy. However, Teaching Reading focuses on the explicit teaching of reading to all students from early to middle primary. In doing so, the course includes the development of knowledge and skills for supporting and promoting the reading literacy of students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs. Skills in planning for the explicit teaching of reading is an essential component of this, as is the development of knowledge and skills for systematic assessment of reading literacy.
