Course details
Public and private sector agencies involved in developing tourism planning and policy development are focussing on sustainable tourism development as a priority. Additionally increasing numbers of tourists are seeking sustainable tourism experiences.
This course provides a conceptual basis for understanding sound professional practice in the development and management of tourism operations and destinations. The course introduces students to the evolution, current status and future outlook on tourism as a tool for sustainable economic, social and environmental development. This course will draw upon leading global sustainable research and practices through CQUniversity¿s linkages with organisations such as the United Nations World Tourism Organisation and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
A number of additional topics will also be discussed including authenticity, carrying capacity, global demand versus local benefits, impacts on local communities and biodiversity, the role and participation of indigenous peoples and the future directions of tourism development.
