Course details
This course is designed for project managers in the resources and infrastructure industries and focuses on how a project manager applies tools and techniques to meet project goals. This process is the heart of project management (PM) and ensuring that goals are aligned to the client, stakeholders and the strategy and program objectives of the enterprise is a constant challenge for project managers. The course focus on how processes and events are related to stages of the project life cycle and affect decisions related to project goals. Through mathematical functions and statistical methods, the course investigates standard PM techniques including: estimating and budgeting, earned value management, scheduling, failure mode and effect analysis, variance and risk management, and their application to project decision-making and goal realisation. Through the application of tools such as; control charts, influence diagrams, schedules, probability and impact, risk breakdown and work authorisations, different project outcomes are explored. These tools and techniques are used to compare and contrast case studies from the infrastructure and resources industry and therefore equip project managers with a comprehensive understanding of how to enable cost and performance efficiencies to be gained in complex projects.
