LNGC40054 Direct Entry English for Academic Purposes

Course details

On completion of this course students should be able to use appropriate grammar and writing patterns and conventions. The course also helps students to apply a range of learning strategies to writing and study. They are encouraged to examine their own worldviews, and those of others, and to develop critical thinking skills. Students are familiarised with a variety of genres and the stages of the writing process. Students develop strategies to plan and write paragraphs, using academic language and conventions. They are introduced to research, note-taking and referencing for this purpose. What are the expected course outcomes?
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to: use appropriate grammar and writing patterns and conventions; use writing frameworks to produce writing pieces according to audience and purpose; apply reading and note-taking frameworks and strategies to help plan, prepare and present referenced academic paragraphs.
