ENAC12007 Hydraulics & Hydrology

Course details

This course provides an overview of the basic hydraulic principles used in civil and environmental engineering for analysis of static and moving water. The concepts of conservation of mass, momentum and energy are introduced. Students are also introduced to flow measurements, physical modelling of hydraulic systems, hydraulic structures, and pump selection to suit given applications. The course requires students to solve problems, prepare basic designs, and describe the construction and maintenance of pipe and open channel systems. Students apply principles of hydrology to determine runoff from rainfall. In completing these tasks, students use appropriate technical language in their communication and work individually and in teams to solve problems. Distance education (FLEX) students are required participate in a Residential School to promote development of course learning outcomes
