MDWF20008 Social and Cultural Issues in Midwifery

Course details

The purpose of this course is to examine social and cultural issues related to contemporary midwifery practice. Students will explore the influence of social and cultural contexts on vulnerable and disadvantaged groups such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and to enable students to identify relevant support services. The aim is to provide the opportunity for students to explore concepts of health, illness, values and beliefs of people from diverse backgrounds within society and examine these relationships to midwifery practice.
