Course details
Students who successfully complete this course will understand and be able to explain the various aspects of takaful & actuarial practices including product development, underwriting, claims, risk, and actuarial theory and practice. They will be able to compare and contrast Islamic and Western concepts of takaful/insurance and actuarial practices, analyse and interpret contemporary academic and popular media commentary on takaful & actuarial practices, reflect upon takaful & actuarial practice issues in the context of a Western economic setting including the relevance of ethical and professional practice, integrate theoretical and technical takaful & actuarial practice knowledge and critically apply these to solve emerging and/or advanced problems using an ethical and professional approach in multi-cultural and multi-faith environments, and justify and communicate takaful & actuarial practices advice and ideas in complex collaborative contexts.
