Course details
Students will be able to describe physiological concepts and embryology of the head and neck with particular relevance to the oral cavity and the dentition. Students will also be able to describe and identify relevant anatomic and physiological features of the head and neck with particular relevance to the oral cavity. Students will learn to describe the histology of tissues and organs of the oral cavity, and a healthy oral biological and biochemical environment and the importance of saliva.
This course is offered in conjunction with the Oral Health Pathology and Diagnosis course to provide students with a sound foundation in oral health theory in readiness for second year. Lastly, students will be able to communicate oral health in oral and written formats in terms of relevant interpersonal/team communication skills and professional attitudes/behaviours.
