EDEL20006 Contemporary Design for Authentic e-Learning

Course details

Emerging online technologies, in particular social networking and the participatory web support new conceptions of online learning and pedagogy. Learners are now able to participate in online communities of practice which are inclusive not only of their colleagues and teachers, but other experts and professional role models. The community of practice can exist independent of the barriers of time and place. The most effective learning, informed by theorists and practitioners, is that in which learners are immersed in an authentic context. Learning technologies can support highly authentic, contextual learning. Learning can also be supported in highly immersive environments, such as virtual worlds, multi-player games and simulations. In this course, learners will draw from their exploration of authentic, immersive, contextual learning to design a learning sequence appropriate in their own teaching or training environments.
