MEDI11001 Fundamentals of the Imaging Professions

Course details

This course will introduce students to medical radiation sciences, the professions of radiography and sonography and the structure and function of the radiological clinical environment in hospital and clinics. The different imaging and therapeutic techniques involving the use of various medical radiations will be discussed. Safety in the workplace will be incorporated, including personal, patient and radiation safety and the safe operation of radiological equipment. Classroom work will be integrated with a clinical observation period to enable the students to become oriented to the role of the radiographer and sonographer and the behaviours and attitudes required to function effectively in a radiology department.

Distance education students will be required to attend a residential school.
