Course details
Nursing assessment involves the systematic and comprehensive collection of data about the individual's health state. Importantly, the health assessment incorporates an holistic approach focussing on the individual as a whole and thereby includes biophysical, psychosocial, emotional, cultural, spiritual, mental and developmental aspects of the client, in conjunction with the client's record and laboratory results. Students should be able to discuss the need for planned and organised approach in conducting holistic nursing assessments on the client. Students should also be able to discuss the approaches used and issues to consider in undertaking psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and developmental assessments of the client across the lifespan and of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. In addition, students should be able to explain the process of obtaining objective data using the physical assessment techniques when conducting a biophysical nursing assessment of integumentary, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, gastrointestinal and sensory systems. Participation in the clinical laboratory sessions is compulsory for internal students and residential school is compulsory for Flex students.
