Course details
This course provides speech pathology students with a detailed understanding of gross and functional anatomy of the head and neck regions. It will introduce anatomical terminology with an emphasis on the organs involved in speech and swallowing as well as the functional anatomy of the cranial nerves. Anatomical knowledge of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, essential to the understanding to the production of speech, will also be studied. Basic concepts in embryological development of the head and neck required to understand disorders of speech, along with age and sex variations, are included.
