Course details
The course introduces systems thinking, systems engineering and systems management principles, concepts, tools and techniques to help resources and infrastructure project managers achieve project management (PM) goals.
Systems thinking offers project managers the powerful perspective to help design clever enduring solutions to system problems. The course introduces simple yet effective tools and techniques to the project manager.
Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary discipline and refers to the distinctive set of concepts and methodologies that have been developed to meet the challenges of engineering systems of unprecedented complexity through the engineering phases of design, development and production/construction to operation. Project managers will learn how to apply systems engineering to organise complex projects.
Systems management focuses on the design, implementation and effective and efficient PM uses of application systems to create PM outputs, manage PM information and information flow to support effective knowledge management and decision making. The PM application systems may be implemented as manual processes or electronically (through applications such as Primavera, SAP, or Maximo).
The course addresses the use of PM applications in the context of project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication, risk and procurement throughout the project life cycle. Project managers will be able to propose appropriate project management systems supporting successful project execution. Furthermore, project managers will be able to ensure that there is an efficient information flow leading to effective decision making for complex infrastructure and resources projects.
