Course details
This course will be the first in the Bachelor of Oral Health program to prepare students for employment as a registered dental practitioner in oral health therapy. It will provide students with knowledge, skills and attitudes required for clinical work in a dental surgery and health promotion activities in the community. It will also provide an orientation into the oral health therapy profession itself.
Learning outcomes include the identification of the dentition across the lifespan; occlusion, tooth structure and periodontal tissue; the pathogenesis and prevention of common oral diseases; dental diseases and oral pathology on radiographs; workplace health and safety; dental instruments and equipment; record management and practice management; and the legislative framework for members of the dental team; oral health in oral and written formats; relevant interpersonal/team communication skills and professional attitudes/behaviours. All students are required to attend a Residential School.
