Course details
This capstone course will provide students with the integration of knowledge, skills and professional experience of clinical work in a dental surgery in preparation for graduation as an oral health therapist. This course is a sequel to Oral Health Clinical Placement 1 which reinforces skills learnt previously as well as developing new skills and techniques. Students will be exposed to a real work environment where they will be able to demonstrate competence in total patient care over a range of clinical preventive and operative procedures with patients of all ages and complexity in terms of co-morbidity, poly-pharmacy, pain control and referral pathways. Students will gain competency in general and specialised treatment areas. Reflective and self directed learning will improve student¿s ability as a clinician within their scope of practice in a supportive and confidence- building environment. Lastly, students will be able to communicate oral health in oral and written formats in terms of relevant interpersonal/team communication skills and professional attitudes/behaviours.
