Course details
This course focuses on the staging of conferences and events as a function of communication arts with specific reference to museums and galleries, fashion design, theatre, music and brands. Students will undertake an evaluation of the process of staging conferences and to acquire the analytical skills for effectively designing, staging, managing and evaluating events at national and local levels.
Specifically, students will critically assess the role of conferences and events in national economies with reference to Sydney, Melbourne and three overseas cities including Las Vegas, Singapore and one other relevant to the student¿s locale. Students will evaluate the brand value of these cities for attracting events with the aim to understand the planning process of a major event. Students will also study how events are organized and the promotion and media strategies relevant to staging events including contingency management and methods to evaluate the effectiveness of events and conferences. Case studies will be employed in these pursuits to illustrate theories and principles relevant to city branding, conference promotions, national media relations and local shopping mall events.
