LAWS11059 Introduction to Law B

Course details

This course examines how legislation is made, at a state (specifically Queensland) and at federal level. The ability to read and understand what is meant by the terms of any particular piece of legislation is not self-evident. The interpretation of legislation is governed by special rules which mediate its understanding. This course examines the rules of statutory interpretation and how they may be applied given specific socio-legal ideological philosophies. The statutory interpretation component of this subject is essential for continued studies as students will be required to read, understand, explain and interpret legislation in future courses of the degree program and beyond.
