Course details
This course introduces students to the nature, scope and value of the Humanities. Through a broad paradigmatic study of history, literary studies, cultural studies and human geography, students will be able to demonstrate an introductory knowledge of the perspectives and methodologies of the humanities which they can use as a platform for their subsequent study in more advanced humanities disciplines. By reading a diverse selection of material on selected aspects of life, and by showing how the different humanities disciplines would approach these, students will be able to respond critically to selected texts and issues. Students will begin with their own interests and knowledge as they develop skills in the fundamentals of Humanities inquiry: questioning, analysing, interpreting, researching, making connections and constructing arguments.
