NURS21164 Mental Health Nursing

Course details

This course will extend the students knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental illness. The course will incorporate comprehensive mental health nursing assessment and apply these skills to the commonly used diagnostic classification systems used in psychiatry and mental health nursing. Skills and knowledge in the use of a range of current therapies including psycho-pharmaceutical preparations, electroconvulsive therapy, psycho-social and milieu therapies will be included. The ability to critically analyse ethical issues in a culturally appropriate environment, using research evidence applicable to mental health nursing practice is also a part of this course.
