NURS13113 The Psychiatric Consumer

Course details

The Psychiatric Consumer provides an opportunity for the student to demonstrate an understanding of the nursing care of people with mental health problems. An exploration of symptomatology and treatments allows students to validate nursing management. The Recovery model and the important perspectives of consumers provide students with the opportunity to understand health service user perspectives. Finally students should be able to critically reflect on the use of self as a therapeutic tool within the specialist discipline area which is mental health nursing. Internal students are provided the opportunity to meet the learning outcomes by participation in compulsory intensive workshops while flex students are provided the opportunity to meet the learning outcomes by participation in a compulsory residential school.
