Course details
This course uses the 'Stanislavsky method' of 'getting behind the eyeballs of each social science' (Strada, 2009) to introduce students to the perspectives of the social sciences and their contributions in analysing and understanding 21st Century issues of global significance. Through a broad paradigmatic study of geography, history, Indigenous studies, sociology, psychology, welfare studies, economics, political science and education, students will be able to demonstrate an introductory knowledge of the perspectives and methodologies of the social sciences which they can use as a platform for their subsequent study in more advanced social science disciplines. Students will be able to utilise the perspectives and methods of the social sciences as a means of critically analysing and reflecting upon complex global phenomena arising from the forces of change and globalisation. The course adopts a specific social phenomenon as its focus for study.
