NURS13121 Cardiac Care Nursing

Course details

Students should be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate safe nursing care for individuals and their families adapting to alterations in cardiac function.This course builds on the knowledge and skills learnt in previous courses with the focal point being the development of knowledge concerned with the care of the client experiencing alterations in cardiac function. The course focuses on the role of the nurse in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe nursing care for individuals and their families adapting to alterations in cardiac function. Students should be able to critically analysis the care provided to clients experiencing alterations in cardiac function, including strategies used to assist individuals and their family cope with crisis situations. In addition students will examine ethico-legal issues and display knowledge of collaborative care strategies including the use of pharmacological agents, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to the care of clients experiencing alterations in cardiac function. Knowledge, skills and attributes are further developed within a health care facility as part of a clinical placement where students will be encouraged to demonstrate accountability for their own nursing actions.

Participation in compulsory clinical placement should provide students with a suitable learning environment to meet the course objectives. Participation in the intensive workshops is compulsory for all students.
